The Omnivore's 100 list of must try food...

I stumbled upon this list some time ago and decided to see how I do. I also wanted to make this blog a bit interactive so I hope the people that read this make their own list and see how they score. You can post your scores in the comment section if you like.

It's surprising to know that there is still a lot of food out there that I must try. I do plan to try some this coming 2009 but others that I will never even dare try (whole insects, roadkill, Fugu, etc...)

80/100. I also have absolutely no intention of trying fugu either. I have philosophical objections to eating anything that can kill me even when it's already dead.

Actually, I'm 85% sure I've had Hare, but didn't count it since not 100% sure. I've eaten rabbit many times though, but they're not the same. I've eaten both crocodile and alligator. Nothing great.

Actually the crocodile stew I had in a Portugese restaurant (my brother ordered it and I just tasted) a several years ago was pretty bad - rubbery and fishy. I had the alligator as spicy sausages in New Orleans (the red Fish Grill) back in 2001. Not bad at all, but not great either.

Hi Miguel,

I think I eat too much. I got 89/100 and have absolutely no intention of completing all 100. I have to say that most of the 89 I tasted for the novelty of it but would only regularly eat only a small portion of the list.

Noel - Ya I think Rabbit is not the same as Hare right??

Tonico - I dont expect any less form you hehehe...

You are right...from that liost there are very few items that we would eaton a regular basis...

Yes, rabbits and hare are different. Their skulls are different, hare are larger, heavier, and have longer hind legs and larger hind feet. Rabbits are born blind and hairless, while hare are born furry and with vision (I didn't know all that, I looked it up).

If the Tonico who commented is the Tonico M that I know, I don't believe he got "only" an 89. For sure he has eaten everything, even humans.

Hahaha - yes thats Tonico M.

Hi Miguel and Noel,

If I could consult such distinguished oenophiles, what variety would you pair with humans? Would it be Rose'? Would a Homenaje Rosado do?

Seriously, I enjoy reading both of your blogs keep up the great work!

Hey, Tonics. The wine will depend, naturally, on what kind of human you are talking about and how he or she is cooked.

Glad to know you read my blog.

Best,
